I am a candidate for Circuit Judge in the 21st Judicial District of Tennessee. A fundamental concept of our legal system in the U.S. is the “rule of law,” holding that laws should be enacted by elected legislative bodies, and enforced by an independent judiciary. Circuit Courts are courts of original jurisdiction and are responsible for applying the law to the facts in each case, and their distinctive function is to supervise the fact-finding process both in civil and criminal matters. It is the duty of judges to control their personal preferences, and to apply the law as written for a fair administration of justice. Judges must exercise judicial restraint, and should not presume to override the legislative process. Tennessee has 31 Judicial Districts, and the courts of original jurisdiction include Chancery, Criminal, Circuit and Probate Courts. Currently there are 142 trial judges within the State of Tennessee. The 21st Judicial District includes Williamson, Hickman, Lewis and Perry Counties. In the 21st Judicial District, all judges are designated as Circuit Judges. There are four Divisions with a separate Judge for each Division. The Judges rotate between the civil, chancery and criminal dockets. I am seeking election as Circuit Judge for Division 1, and my name, Victoria Krueger, will be on the May 2, 2006 Republican Primary ballot. I have 25 years of experience in the practice of law with a broad background in civil, probate and criminal matters as well as extensive trial experience. I possess the expertise required to efficiently and effectively administer the laws of the State of Tennessee as a Circuit Court Judge. In addition, I have extensive management experience required to effectively manage the court docket. Justice involves not only handing down decisions based on the “rule of law,” but also administering it swiftly and efficiently. I want to serve the 21st Judicial District to uphold the “rule of law,” to be fair and impartial but tough on those who repeatedly break the law, and to improve the management of our court system. Please see my “About Victoria” page for further details on my background and qualifications. |
